You can probably see where this one’s going. Narrating over top of the flashback is the deceased little girl’s grandfather, letting us know that her family has never been able to move past what happened. ![]() A little girl was killed on this particular mountain three years prior, we learn right off the bat, run over during a snowboarding accident and left to die by the man responsible. Let It Snow is hardly a body count movie but it does follow the general formula of the slasher flick, beginning with a flashback scene that clues us into the sins of the past that Mia and Max have unknowingly found themselves snowboarding straight into. Those that have gone missing of late, they soon learn, fell victim to a masked killer who’s now hunting them. As good-looking young people in foreign lands are apt to do in the world of horror movies, they ignore all the ominous warnings about the particular ridge they plan on conquering, charting a helicopter to take them to the precise location they’ve been told to stay far away from. If the elements don’t get you, a masked maniac just might.ĭirected by Stanislav Kapralov, Let It Snow centers on Mia ( Ivanna Sakhno) and Max ( Alex Hafner), a couple on Christmas vacation to the snowy mountains of Georgia (the country, not the state) for some good old fashioned snowboarding fun. ![]() Cut from the same cloth, the Ukranian horror film Let It Snow similarly warns of the perils of snowboarding. Though they’re not the only two horror movies in the Snowboarding Scares sub-genre, the Norwegian slasher Cold Prey and Adam Green’s survival chiller Frozen are easily the two best examples of just how terribly a fun trip to the mountains can go wrong. For every fun activity you can think of, there’s at least one horror movie that’s come along over the years to make you wary of ever doing it again.

![]() Keep in mind that TL and STC ratings are NOT the same thing. For example, if you’re listening to music in the kitchen (let’s say 50 decibels of sound) and it can be heard in the room on the other side of the wall (30 decibels), there would be a 20-decibel transmission loss through the wall. TL is a measurement of the difference in decibels on two sides of a barrier. Though they are calculated in a lab under ideal conditions, STC ratings are the best tool we have to easily understand how effective a barrier.is at stopping sound transmission. STC rating is a measurement of how effective a barrier is at stopping the transmission of sound across a variety of frequencies. Sound Transmission Class (STC) rating. We’ll dig deeper into what it really means to soundproof a wall, but first, let’s review and make sure we’re talking the same language with some key principles. If you understand the previous two paragraphs though, then you're well on your way to solving your noise control issue. It's common for people to get confused about soundproofing vs acoustics when researching "wall soundproofing" or " soundproofing a room". Sound isolation requires planning and precision, but anyone can do them with basic knowledge and a little attention to detail. By preventing sound from getting into or out of a space, you reduce or eliminate the disruptions and distractions unwanted noise can create. Sound isolation creates barriers that keep exterior sounds OUT and interior sounds IN the space. The second category is soundproofing or sound isolation, which calls for the installation of sound blocking materials. Acoustics control improves the sound quality within a room (think of a music recording studio) but DOES NOT prevent noise from entering or exiting the room. Acoustics control techniques use a variety of sound absorption materials, like acoustic panels, and other strategies to reduce the echoes inside of a room and the reverberations that come from sound bouncing off the walls. ![]() One is improving acoustics, which is all about the quality of sound and improving speech intelligibility. There are two main categories of noise control. Whether you're soundproofing the walls in your home or soundproofing the walls in your office, w ith good information and the right tools, any wall soundproofing project is doable. You can finally have peace and quiet that you not only deserve but need!Īs we get into this, you'll learn the basic principles of wall soundproofing and see some wall assemblies to give you the degree of noise control you desire. Soundproofing your walls will limiting what you hear from your noisy neighbors or nearby traffic and go a long way in reducing stress, improving health, and promoting focus. Excessive noise has been shown to trigger the body’s stress response, therefore tying it to a variety of issues – ranging from heart disease to lower sleep quality to less work productivity. Whether you're in your home or in an office, having privacy and quiet is so invaluable. Have you ever overheard a conversation you either weren't supposed to or wish you hadn't? Oops! Walls can create an illusion that we're in private when we're really not. ![]() Use it to frost a layer cake, to generously pipe atop 12 cupcakes, or as a main course. The frosting should be as light and fluffy as whipped cream. Now, be sure that the milk/flour mixture has completely cooled, and add it to the butter/sugar mixture.īeat all ingredients for about 1 minute on high speed, scraping down the bowl halfway, until they are smooth and well blended. You want the sugar to be totally incorporated into the butter. Now, in the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with a whisk attachment, or using a hand held mixer, beat 2 sticks of softened butter (1 cup) with 1 1/4 cups of granulated sugar until light, fluffy, and white in color, about 3 solid minutes of beating on medium-high speed. Stir in 2 teaspoons vanilla extract and set aside to cool COMPLETELY. You will know it’s done when it reaches the consistency of thick cake batter, after about 7 minutes of heating and whisking. Heat over medium until the mixture begins to sputter, whisking constantly.Ĭontinue to stir as the mixture thickens. In a medium saucepan, whisk one cup of milk with 5 tablespoons of flour. I recommend using this recipe for any or all of the following three things: 1) a bold baked good that needs a light complement, 2) a soft, fluffy crumbed cake, 3) everlasting happiness. It was a huge hit, and the most lovely icing I could have imagined slathered on my favorite cake. That kind of cake begs for a break from intensity and unrestrained decadence. ![]() I wanted something light enough to let the melting fudge layers to really take center stage. I made this frosting on Christmas Eve to top a sour cream fudge layer cake. The flavor is gently vanilla the texture is feather-light. Essentially, you make a roux of milk and flour, which is just a thick creamy paste, and then whip it with softened butter and granulated sugar until you’ve got a big bowl of fluff on your hands. Really, it’s just the thing to balance an ultra rich chocolate fudge cake.Īnd it’s not difficult to whip up either. Perfectly light and fluffy, and able to make an intense cake somehow delicate and dainty. It’s luxurious and smooth, but only subtly sweet. It’s somewhat of a silky, more substantial whipped cream. That’s what I’m looking for in a frosting.Īnd that’s what I found in this whipped wonder. It’s not a hit of butter, then a gritty tingle of sugar, followed by a vanilla aftertaste. It’s because of it’s unmatched flavor blending, FYI) The beauty of a frosting with high amplitude is that you don’t taste the components of the frosting separately you taste them as one intense mix. (Malcolm Gladwell refers to amplitude in his essay, The Ketchup Conundrum, where he writes about how and why Heinz Ketchup secured the throne in the world of ketchup. And there’s a word for that perfect blending of flavors: ‘amplitude.’ It occurs when all of the various ingredients in something fuse to create a seamless and uniform crescendo of taste. The best frostings must be so well balanced and blended that no one flavor note sticks out in isolation. The texture isn’t silky enough, the flavor isn’t delicate enough, to properly balance a tender, soft-crumbed cake. They’re delicious, don’t get me wrong, but the flavor is often a little heavy on the unsalted butter (you know that straight slick of cream coating your tongue?) or the powdered sugar isn’t as incorporated as it should be, making it slightly gritty. ![]() Even the best buttercreams have a slightly overpowering presence on cupcakes and layer cakes. The slight problem I find with many homemade frostings (versus freshly made bakery versions) is that they’re either too heavy or too sweet. ![]() Now, bear with me here because I’m going to talk science and logistics of perfecting that sweet silky cream. Here are the step by step instructions to make the best whipped frosting! It’s a fluffy vanilla frosting with a texture like whipped cream and a less cloying sweetness than most other recipes!Ī good cake has a great frosting to match. ![]() SQL was not designed for imperative code, so, unfortunately, there isn't a more appropriate syntax for this. Formatting functions don't return any interesting results, but having them in the select list ensures that they have access to rows that satisfy the where clause. Having the formatting functions in the select list might look peculiar. Select ClearBackgroundColor ( 'a1:d10' ) select *, SetBackgroundColor ( Address, 'Orange' ) from xlcells ( 'a1:d10' ) x where x. The following query returns a list of cells in the current selection: This is primarily useful when working with unstructured data. While the SQLite engine primarily works with Excel tables, it can also work with cells via the xlcells() table-valued function. The address information can be used for formatting ranges from SQL (described below).Double-clicking the address in the results grid will scroll to the range in Excel and select it.The _address column is hidden, meaning it is not included in the results if you only specify * in the select list you must include it in the select list explicitly if you need it (e.g. This column contains the original address of the row in Excel. When using the SQLite engine, all workbook tables get an additional column named _address. Any changes that your commands make to the data inside workbook tables will be immediately visible in Excel. All four SQL data operations are supported: select, insert, update and delete. You can use SQL to query and modify data inside tables. To turn a range into a table, select it and press Ctrl+T Data that isn't marked as a table will not be visible. ![]() It's important to note that the SQLite engine will only see data inside Excel tables. ConnectingĬlicking the SQL button in the ribbon pops up the QueryStorm IDE and creates a new SQLite script that you can use to run queries against the tables in the current workbook. QueryStorm comes equipped with a SQLite engine that can work with Excel tables as if they were database tables.
